MINDFULNESS DICTIONARY

self compassion: 

a self-attitude that involves treating oneself with warmth and understanding in difficult times and recognizing that making mistakes is part of being human 

threshold:

the starting point for a new state or experience

breathing space:

an opportunity to pause, relax, or decide what to do next

stop and drop:

pause and tune in the experience as it unfolds in the here and now 

kindness :

a sense of common humanity 

body scan :

scanning the body for any sensations as they arise 

anchor :

find a place in the body to center and ground oneself each time the mind wanders

wandering mind:

thoughts shifting away escaping the present moment 

let go: 

allowing the experience to be just as it is

befriending :

 befriending all of our experience, whether it is pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral; befriending our relationship to ourselves and others; and befriending all events and circumstances

rumination:

 a cycle of repetitive negative thinking

tranquility :

the state of being calm

impermanence:

 the state or fact of lasting for only a limited period of time.

possession :

the state of having, owning or controlling something.

practice :

sitting regularly practicing Mindfulness

non judging :

letting go of the automatic judgments that arise in your mind with every experience you have.

non striving :

a conscious decision to allow things to be as they are, rather than always reacting to try to change things in the moment.

beginner's mind :

an attitude of openness and eagerness, in which a lack of preconceptions allows a person to see everything as though it is for the first time

patience :

understanding and accepting the fact that sometimes things must unfold in their own time.

responding :

slowing down and noticing the internal experience before reacting automatically and consciously take action 

insight :

understand the nature each experience gaining deeper wisdom.

intention:

 cultivating a mindset that guides our actions, emotions, and thoughts toward a desired way of being

awakeness:

 the quality or state of being wide-awake

attention:

paying attention to what is happening in the present moment, and doing so with an accepting attitude towards whatever you notice

choiceless awareness:

 noticing, present moment attending, welcoming whatever comes, watching, witnessing as if we are sitting quietly on the banks of the river, just letting it all flow past

consciousness :

any kind of cognition, experience, feeling, or perception.

genuine :

authentic 

holding :

Instead of being held by the experience you are holding the experience 

equanimity :

a state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by the experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind.

joy:

our innate ability to delight in what's good in the present moment, independent of our circumstances or success.

presence :

Staying present with and accepting whatever arises just as it is moment by moment without reactivity.

stillness :

pause the inflow of information from the world, providing the opportunity to truly process the experience we are having.

resilience:  

the ability to withstand adversity and bounce back from difficult life events.
